Small Wins Log – August 17, 2026 (catch-up)

I took some time off my blog to try to get myself back together. So this is the “catch-up” edition of Small Wins Log.

Energy that day: Okay

1 small win at work: There was not really any wins this particular week. My schedule was shortened by a few hours. And there was a change in management in my department. So there were no discernible wins at work this week.

1 small win at home: I took my cat, Dolce, to the vet for her yearly vet check-up. She got her vitals checked, her yearly distemper shot, and her claws trimmed. A clean bill of health for a 15-year old rescue cat that I have had since she was a kitten.

1 small win for myself: I have taken up journaling. Not on paper and then written with a pen. But a digital one that I keep on my phone. Just in my notes section. Sometimes it can open old wounds, but it also helps me reflect and organize my thoughts.

What helped me: I took my mother out to dinner for her birthday at the local Chinese buffet. The China Garden Buffet, at Airway Shopping Center in Riverside, Ohio. A staple restaurant in my family. We have eaten there a myriad of times. While we were eating, my mom brought up the story of the time when I was four or five. While I was getting a dish of chicken tempura, my mom got a small bowl with a single crawdad (crayfish) on it. She brought up the time that I took a crawdad from the buffet and wanted it as a pet. I did take it home in my hands, not realizing it was already dead and cooked. I kept it for a few days, and it started to stink up my bedroom. My parents then gave me the talk that the crawdad was already dead and cooked. I cried then because I wanted it as a pet. Good memories of happier days as a kiddo.

What was hard this week: That same crawdad on the plate, I ate a little bit of since I didn’t want it to go to waste. Hard to eat, but it was okay. Unfortunately, I have developed a fish intolerance as it tightens my throat with heartburn-like pain for several hours. And the crawdad got its revenge. I developed the same throat pain and tightness on the drive home. And when we did get home I got sick! A reaction that I’ve never had before. Even with shellfish. But I felt better after I got sick in the bathroom. So I am now allergic to shellfish. I had to give up Cajun catfish, fish and chips, sashimi, and any seafood. Now I have to give up shrimp and scallops, and especially, crab, lobster, and crayfish. So no more fish, or shellfish! Gotta be careful now. I’m thankful that my reaction didn’t involve an Epi-Pen, or a hospital/ER stay.

That’s enough. In progress. Until next time, I’m outta here…
